Announcements, Events and News
Singapore is leading the way in urban innovation with cool paint. By reflecting sunlight and reducing surface heat, cool paint not only keeps our buildings and cities cooler but also cuts energy bills and lowers emissions. Studies conducted by the Nanyang Technological University, including trials in a JTC industrial area (2018 to 2019) and on HDB flats (2020, 2024) have shown that heat-reflective paint or cool paint, can lower ambient temperatures by up to 2 deg C.

In a Straits Times forum reply, Er. Joseph Goh, IES Vice President noted that while cool paint may cause a slight local temperature increase, the overall benefits far outweigh this effect. Tan Sze Tiong, Chief Sustainability Officer at HDB added that ongoing reviews ensure our estates remain liveable and resilient amid climate change.
